Your apps stay locked until you're up

When a Scamper alarm rings, Apple's Screen Time locks every app on your iPhone except the ones you choose to keep, such as Phone. They unlock when you scan your tag, walk it off or use the emergency unlock. Scamper never sees which apps you use.

What gets locked

Everything except the apps you pick to stay available. Websites in Safari are locked too. The lock starts when the alarm rings, so there's no inbox or feed to fall into from bed.

How it unlocks

  • Scan your tag: the alarm stops and everything unlocks.
  • Walk it off: 50 steps within 5 minutes, by default.
  • Emergency unlock: hold for 60 seconds. It breaks your streak.
  • If nothing happens for 3 hours (by default), the lock lifts on its own.

Bedtime lock

Optional. Between the bedtime and wake-up times you set, the distracting apps you choose stay locked, and you can't change alarms until it ends. It's the night-time half of the same idea.

Private by design

Screen Time hands Scamper private tokens for the apps you choose, not their names or your usage. Nothing about your app use leaves your iPhone.

Honest limits

While a lock is active you can't delete Scamper, and during Bedtime lock you can't change your alarms. You can still turn off Screen Time access for Scamper in the iPhone Settings app. Scamper is a strong nudge, not a cage.

Questions

Can I still make calls while it's locked?

Yes, if you keep Phone in your allowed apps. Emergency calls from the Lock Screen aren't affected by Screen Time.

Does Scamper see what apps I use?

No. Apple's Screen Time framework only gives Scamper opaque tokens, and no usage data leaves your device.

Mornings, sorted.

Scamper works with any cheap NFC sticker. Free to download when it lands on the App Store.
