Privacy policy
Effective from
Scamper collects no data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no ads and no tracking. We don't run a server for the app, so nothing you do in Scamper is sent to us. Your information stays on your iPhone and, for one small list, in your own iCloud.
Who we are
Scamper is made by Rob Hughes, trading as WhiteMouse, who is the data controller responsible for this policy. You can reach us at scamper@whitemouse.com.
What stays on your iPhone
Scamper keeps the following on your device, in storage shared only between the app and its own Screen Time extensions:
- Your alarms and settings.
- The serial numbers of the NFC tags you pair, so Scamper can tell your tag from any other. It reads only the serial, not anything written on the tag.
- Your wake-up history (when each alarm rang and how it was stopped), used for your streak and stats.
- Your home location, if you set one: a single point and a radius (150 m by default). When you tap Set home to where I am now, Scamper takes one location fix to set it.
- The latest at home or away state and when it changed. Scamper doesn't keep a location history.
- Which apps stay unlocked during an alarm, as the private tokens Apple's Screen Time provides.
- If you use Bedtime lock: your bedtime and wake-up times and the distracting apps you chose, again as Screen Time tokens.
What goes to your iCloud
If you're signed in to iCloud, Scamper keeps a list of your devices in your private CloudKit database, so it can count devices for your plan. Each entry holds a random device identifier, the device model (such as iPhone) with the date it was added, and when it was first and last seen.
Your private database belongs to your Apple Account. We can't read it. Apple's privacy policy covers iCloud. If you're not signed in to iCloud, nothing is stored there.
Permissions
Each permission is optional and used on your iPhone only.
- Alarms: to schedule and ring your alarms.
- NFC: to read your tag's serial number when you scan it.
- Screen Time: to lock apps until you scan, and for Bedtime lock, using Apple's Family Controls. Scamper can't see which apps you use or for how long, and no app usage leaves your device. While a lock is active you can't delete Scamper, and during Bedtime lock you can't change alarms.
- Motion & Fitness: to read your step count for Walk it off and the already-up check. Steps are read on the device and never sent anywhere.
- Location (Always): so iOS can tell Scamper whenever you enter or leave the area around your home, at any time, not only when an alarm rings. The check happens on your iPhone, and Scamper keeps only the latest home or away state and its time.
What we don't do
- No analytics, crash-reporting or advertising SDKs.
- No tracking across apps or websites.
- No selling or sharing of data, because we don't have any.
- No accounts or sign-ups, and no newsletter or marketing lists.
If you've chosen to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple may pass us crash reports and aggregate usage figures. That's Apple's service, and you control it in Settings.
If you email us
If you email us for help, or to hear when Scamper launches, we keep your email address and message to reply to you, or to send the one launch notice you asked for. We delete them when you ask, and keep them no longer than needed: at most 12 months after the launch notice.
Purchases
Scamper doesn't sell anything yet. When paid plans arrive, the App Store will handle payment. We'll never see your payment details; the app only learns whether your subscription is active.
Deleting your data
Deleting Scamper removes everything it stored on your iPhone. You can remove a device from the list in Scamper's Devices screen, and you can delete Scamper's iCloud data from your iCloud storage settings.
