Answers to the common questions. If yours isn't here, email us.
Which NFC tags work?
Any NFC sticker with a readable serial number. The cheap NTAG213, NTAG215 and NTAG216 stickers sold in packs online work well, and so do most NFC key fobs and cards. Scamper reads only the tag's serial, so you don't need to write anything to it.
Tags don't read well when stuck directly onto metal. For a fridge or metal door, use an on-metal (anti-metal) tag.
What if I lose my tag?
You won't be locked out. On the ringing screen, hold No tag? and walk it off, or hold the emergency button for 60 seconds. Then pair a new tag from the Tag tile on Today or in Settings.
Why does Scamper need Screen Time access?
Scamper uses Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) to lock your apps while the alarm rings and unlock them when you scan. You choose which apps stay available, such as Phone. Scamper can't see your app usage, and none of it leaves your iPhone.
You can turn the access off at any time in the iPhone Settings app. Your alarms will still ring, but Scamper can't lock apps until you turn it back on.
Will it ring when my iPhone is on silent?
Yes. Scamper uses Apple's alarm system for iOS 26, the same kind of alarm as the Clock app, so it rings through Silent mode and Focus.
Which iPhones does it work on?
Any iPhone that runs iOS 26. Every one of them can read NFC tags.
Do I need an account?
No. There's no sign-up. If you use iCloud, Scamper keeps your device list in your own private iCloud database.
How do I delete my data?
Delete the app. Everything Scamper stores lives on your iPhone, apart from the device list in your private iCloud, which you can remove from your iCloud storage settings. See the privacy policy for details.
